Another Barn

June 7, 2007 at 4:25 pm (Photography, america, americana, animal, animals, architecture, barn, barns, country, decor, decorating, farm, farming, gifts, historic, history, rustic, scenery, scenic, traditional)

 Barn and Silo

I have loved this farm for years-as a kid, we used to go fishing nearby, and I always looked forward to seeing this farm when we drove by. It’s on a nearly 90 degree bend in a road, so it makes a grand statement when you come around the corner! This is a working farm and bed and breakfast. It’s nice to see that some of the original barns and farms in western New York are still in use today! If you’d like to add this beautifully kept barn to your home or office decor, click on the photograph above or visit our Americana and Rustic Country section in our photography shop here: http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633112 .

Whirlpool State Park-Niagara Falls

June 5, 2007 at 11:44 am (American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Canada, New York, Niagara Gorge, Niagara Rapids, Niagara River, Niagara Whirlpool, Ontario, Photography, architecture, decor, decorating, gifts, nature, niagara county, niagara falls, scenery, scenic, travel, united states, usa)

 Sunlight Steps   Blue Water

Just beyond the tourist attractions of the city of Niagara Falls is a state park situated on the edge of the Niagara Gorge.  Down river from the falls, the water here is a beautiful blue-green and the rapids and whirling eddies add frothy white to the top.  You can take a set of stone steps down from the top to the water below-it’s a popular fishing spot for anglers.  This isn’t a trip for the faint of heart (the steps have had some erosion issues through the years and some sets are set at an intersting angle) or the out of shape (there’s A LOT of steps!), but it’s well worth the climb.  Once at the bottom, there are several stone picnic benches as well as a nice walking trail that winds along the river.  If you’d like to bring home some of the beauty of the gorge, click on one of the pictures above (a flight of stone steps as well as a view of the beautiful blue water), or visit our scenic section in our shop for those and more here: http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633138 .

Log Cabins

May 31, 2007 at 10:53 pm (Photography, america, americana, antique, architecture, country, decor, decorating, gifts, historic, history, log cabin, log cabins, rustic, scenery, scenic, traditional, vintage)

Summer at the Cabin

This log cabin is located in Wilson New York.  These historic structures once dotted the American landscape as people moved west and into areas where building with clapboards and cut joists wasn’t feasible.  Easily constructed from trees harvested on a homesteader’s land, they became icons of American history.  While log cabins are still popular in wooded areas as a traditional styled home, they are grown quite a bit from the early one or two room structures to extravagant homes.  If you’d like to decorate your home or office with the simple beauty of an original log home, click the photograph above or follow this link to our rustic country & Americana section in our photography shop: http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633112 .

Lake Ontario Sunset

May 31, 2007 at 3:12 am (New York, Ontario, Photography, decor, decorating, gifts, lake ontario, nature, niagara county, scenery, scenic, sunset, travel)

Lakeside Sunset

A beautiful sunset as seen from the shore of Lake Ontario in Olcott Beach, New York.  Lake Ontario is one of the Great Lakes, connected to Lake Erie via the Welland canal and the ocean via the St Lawrence Seaway.  It is the terminus of the Niagara River, and home to a great many shipwrecks,
lighthouses and an important part of shipping and trade.  It can be beautiful and serene, like in this photo, or churning and wild as the winds whip along it’s length.  It helps drop feet of lake effect snow on places to the east, such as Watertown. If you’d like to add a little nautical beauty to your home, click the image above to see the products that feature our sunset photograph, or follow this link to our Landscape section in our shop: http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633123 .

Antique and Vintage Tractors

May 31, 2007 at 3:08 am (Photography, americana, antique, country, decor, decorating, decorating style, farm, farming, gifts, historic, history, rustic, tractor, tractors, vintage)

Antiqued Tractor  Americana Tractor

Tractor shows, farm festivals and pulls all stand to show that even though times change and the vintage tractors might be gone from the fields they are certainly not forgotten!  The evolution from horse to tractor was huge-but the changes in the tractors themselves is amazing.  These tractor
photographs are symbolic of the machines that many associate with country living, simpler times and open lands.  As farms turn into subdivisions, antique tractors become lawn ornaments on the land they once worked.  Bring home a bit nostalgia today with one of our vintage tractor photographs!

Bless This House

May 19, 2007 at 9:40 am (Photography, blessing, blessings, decor, decorating, gifts, home blessing, irish, irish blessing, traditional)

House BlessingBlessing on a Home The Irish are known for their blessings. It seems as though they had a blessing for everything-homes, people, celebrations, even mourning. Most of them are truly touching and beautiful. Although I am part Irish, I never really read many of them as a child. I have always loved poetry though, and after reading many of their beautiful traditional blessings recently, I wonder if it isn’t an inherent trait. We have several blessings in our shop, and I will blog others throughout the year. I particularly like the home blessings, since they make such great house warming gifts. After all, these are the kind of thing you like to receive, rather than buy for yourself. If you’d like to check out all of our blessings  http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2670545(this section of our shop is always growing) or click on the photographs above to view those specific blessings and the products they are available on (like framed prints and coasters).

Americana Style

May 18, 2007 at 4:33 pm (Photography, america, americana, country, decor, decorating, decorating style, history, rustic, united states, usa)

Americana  USA Heart-AmericanaSearching the word Americana online can bring a wide variety of results-from music to decor. What is Americana decor? It’s a blend of country, rustic, and things that make people think of early America and being patriotic. Americana usually incorporates the US flag (either in it’s current 50 state form, or earlier versions from the American past). It also is signified by simpler art styles like painted wood and hand crafted pieces, as well as things associated with Early America and farming. Barns, antique tractors, milk cans-all features of an Americana decor. If you’d like to decorate your home or add to your existing decor, check out our Americana photography section in our shop here http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633112 or click on one of the photographs above to see those specific designs. Americana decor also makes great temporary decorations for days like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Our photographs are available not only on framed prints and posters, but on things you can use to celebrate in style-like t-shirts, mousepads, journals and coasters.
