This log cabin is located in Wilson New York. These historic structures once dotted the American landscape as people moved west and into areas where building with clapboards and cut joists wasn’t feasible. Easily constructed from trees harvested on a homesteader’s land, they became icons of American history. While log cabins are still popular in wooded areas as a traditional styled home, they are grown quite a bit from the early one or two room structures to extravagant homes. If you’d like to decorate your home or office with the simple beauty of an original log home, click the photograph above or follow this link to our rustic country & Americana section in our photography shop: http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633112 .

These beautiful tan horses are among the oldest breeds in existence. Directly descended from the Tarpan horse, the ancestors of the Fjords can be seen in cave paintings! The hard working Fjord makes a good light draft horse, although they can be a bit on the stubborn side. Their size makes them more manageable than the larger draft breeds, such as Clydesdales. Our photograph was taken at a farm festival, and the team shown was working in a field along side much larger horses, turning the soil with ease. Available on a variety of items from mousepads to framed prints, it makes a great gift for horse lovers or anyone that likes a bit of country in their decor! A beautiful sunset as seen from the shore of Lake Ontario in Olcott Beach, New York. Lake Ontario is one of the Great Lakes, connected to Lake Erie via the Welland canal and the ocean via the St Lawrence Seaway. It is the terminus of the Niagara River, and home to a great many shipwrecks,
lighthouses and an important part of shipping and trade. It can be beautiful and serene, like in this photo, or churning and wild as the winds whip along it’s length. It helps drop feet of lake effect snow on places to the east, such as Watertown. If you’d like to add a little nautical beauty to your home, click the image above to see the products that feature our sunset photograph, or follow this link to our Landscape section in our shop: http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633123 .

Tractor shows, farm festivals and pulls all stand to show that even though times change and the vintage tractors might be gone from the fields they are certainly not forgotten! The evolution from horse to tractor was huge-but the changes in the tractors themselves is amazing. These tractor
photographs are symbolic of the machines that many associate with country living, simpler times and open lands. As farms turn into subdivisions, antique tractors become lawn ornaments on the land they once worked. Bring home a bit nostalgia today with one of our vintage tractor photographs!

Perched on one of the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, Whiteface castle looks out over an impressive view of the region which includes the Lake Placid Olympic area and village. It is accessed by a toll road built in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s as part of a depression are public works project. The castle itself is constructed on granite that was excavated during the construction of Veterans Memorial highway, the toll road which reaches from near the base of the mountain to the summit. Open from spring to fall, the highway has an 8% grade which makes the drive down interesting to say the least. The construction cost an impressive 1.2 million dollars to complete, and the groundbreaking was attended by then governor Franklin Roosevelt. He returned in 1935 for the grand opening as president. If you find yourself in the high peaks are during the time the road is open, it is a spectacular drive for those willing to give it a go. If you’d like to bring a bit of this historic place into your home or office, click the photograph above for products which feature a snowy photograph of the castle. Landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, architects Lord & Burnham and botanist John F. Cowell all had a hand in designing and building the beautiful and historic Buffalo botanical gardens. It was built from 1897-1899, and it is currently one of only two existing tri-dome Victorian conservatories in America. The conservatory has gone through several renovations and additions over the years, and faced possible closure in the late 1970’s. Saved by the dedication of Florence DaLuiso (who provided tours of the facility to schools in an effort to raise public awareness of the buildings), it’s most recent renovations were to the Palm dome in 2001-2002. It’s a great day trip for locals during the long cold Buffalo winters! If you’d like to bring home a photograph of the historic glass dome, click the photograph above. Or, follow this link to our architecture section http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633153 or this link http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2688373 to our floral section which features many flowers from the gardens. The Irish are known for their blessings. It seems as though they had a blessing for everything-homes, people, celebrations, even mourning. Most of them are truly touching and beautiful. Although I am part Irish, I never really read many of them as a child. I have always loved poetry though, and after reading many of their beautiful traditional blessings recently, I wonder if it isn’t an inherent trait. We have several blessings in our shop, and I will blog others throughout the year. I particularly like the home blessings, since they make such great house warming gifts. After all, these are the kind of thing you like to receive, rather than buy for yourself. If you’d like to check out all of our blessings http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2670545(this section of our shop is always growing) or click on the photographs above to view those specific blessings and the products they are available on (like framed prints and coasters).

Boer goats are traditionally meat goats. They are kept in many places as pets however as well. Goats in general are great pets if you have some space for a pasture for them. They are curious and friendly, and make great 4H project animals for kids that don’t have the space for the larger farm animals such as calves and horses. Goats are also easier to transport and easier handle for smaller children. They are a petting zoo staple across the country because of their easy going natures and voracious appetites-they never seem to turn down the pellets offered in the little hands of visitors! We have a variety of products featuring these adorable little guys and gals in our shop’s farm animal section. If you’re looking for a bit of country farm for your decor, or even a Christmas ornament for a goat loving friend, you’re sure to find it here http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2979606 (or click on the photographs above for the designs featuring those photographs).

Searching the word Americana online can bring a wide variety of results-from music to decor. What is Americana decor? It’s a blend of country, rustic, and things that make people think of early America and being patriotic. Americana usually incorporates the US flag (either in it’s current 50 state form, or earlier versions from the American past). It also is signified by simpler art styles like painted wood and hand crafted pieces, as well as things associated with Early America and farming. Barns, antique tractors, milk cans-all features of an Americana decor. If you’d like to decorate your home or add to your existing decor, check out our Americana photography section in our shop here http://www.cafepress.com/photographz/2633112 or click on one of the photographs above to see those specific designs. Americana decor also makes great temporary decorations for days like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Our photographs are available not only on framed prints and posters, but on things you can use to celebrate in style-like t-shirts, mousepads, journals and coasters.
